CLEMENS CONRAD, VECTORFORM

As Experience Director and CEO, Clemens Conrad has been a driving force behind Vectorform’s expansive portfolio and creative reputation. His responsibilities extend over multiple offices, including USA, India and Germany where he was born. Gaming and the early adoption of the internet sparked his passion for emerging technologies such as today’s application of AR / VR and beyond.

 

From the business perspective, which trends in virtual and augmented reality are the most promising to you?
Vectorform believes that focusing on the enterprise will allow this technology to become pervasive and drive significant value by solving complex business problems. Deploying AR/VR programs within Corporate Training, Product Visualization and Development, Consumer Brand Experiences, Remote Diagnostic and Repair, are areas that can drive significant value for organizations. 

Vectorform will not be pursing game development due its current market saturation and inherent risk, however Vectorform will use gaming like experiences and other forms of gamification to drive engagement within the experiences developed for the enterprise, commercial space and marketing groups.

Virtual and augmented reality already thrive in many businesses. How do they influence the working processes of companies?
Vectorform has several experiences in development that are focusing on High Consequence Training and Product Marketing in VR as well as Product Development at the Engineering process in AR. Industries like Healthcare, Utilities and Automotive are well positioned for those new realities as they have already digitized a good portion of their product development cycle. More and more of them have either in-house or external specialists for digital product development, including but not limited to 3D modeling and 3D engineers.

Their assets are a great base for usage across other departments and vendors. When companies don’t have that structure in place, we can also engage on that level. Educating on the production chain and value of digital assets creation and management is essential to a successful entrance to VR and AR. As new platforms arise, new skills at the job are required. This also applies to our daily jobs.

As Executive Experience Director, I’m responsible for educating and enabling my UI, UX, Motion Graphics and Production artists to work together to learn new skills from industrial design, game design and other areas. This education and collaboration, in-turn creates a unique set of designers with an expansive skillset. Their core responsibility still remains, but they are now enabled to work on a much broader spectrum. Due to the dynamic nature of technology and the ever-changing skillsets that come along with supporting it, we have seen our partners HR departments adapting to find either candidates with these unique skillsets or changing their talent growth path to ensure their internal teams are set up for success.  

 

In which ways does Vectorform support companies to use Augmented Reality?
Vectorform collaborates with its partners as early as possible in their product development stage. We usually go through a discovery phase to identify the core problem to solve. From there we develop a roadmap from the very engagement up to product rollout, maintenance and further support and development. This involves several disciplines, like our Cognitive Sciences Team, Business Analysts, UX and UI experts as well as 3D and Motion Graphic artists followed by our producers and engineers to craft the Vectorform Experience Excellence. We offer our partners to work out of our office, hand in hand with our team, augment their innovation groups or travel to the client for several weeks for a full immersion in their organization.

In two sentences: WHY DIGILITY? (Why are you personally joining us? Why should stakeholders and decision makers come to DIGILITY in Cologne?)
It is great to see the excitement around VR and AR translating into conferences, sharing knowledge and learning from each other. As part of the Photokina it feels like a natural extension of storytelling in a new way not just for photographers but for every person with a creative vein.
