About Christoph Franke
Born 1965. After a year in Princeton, NJ, studies for Dipl.-Tonmeister, Cultural Administration and musicology in Berlin. 1993-1996 Managing Director of Ensemble Oriol Berlin. As recording producer various CD productions for labels such as EMI, Sony, Warner, Deutsche Grammophon. Film sound for productions of eins54 film. Sound art projects with Ensemble l’art pour l’art, surround radio plays for WDR. Keyboard player in concerts with Staatsoper Berlin and Berliner Philharmoniker. In recordings he has worked with artists such as Christine Schäfer, Artemis Quartet, Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt, Ensemble Modern, Berliner Philharmoniker, Sir Simon Rattle, Murray Perahia, Jonas Kaufmann, Magdalena Kozena, Krystian Zimerman, Lang Lang. Since 2007, he is part of the team which planned and launched the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall (DCH). As Creative Producer, he is responsible for technical and musical content quality in the project “HD-recording and global distribution of classical music” which is probably the largest of its kind worldwide. As Recording Producer, he takes care of all CD productions of the Berliner Philharmoniker.Together with this orchestra as well as other artists and ensembles, his recordings were nominated three times for a Grammy and have won several awards such as ECHO, Diapason d’Or and ICMA.For the DCH, Christoph Franke is searching for new ways to present the intensity and uniqueness of classical music concerts using new technologies, both audio and video.
